The journey began on a trip to India where the mission was to enjoy time away from Los Angeles and come back with a refreshed focused vision. Two suitcases and a huge backpack that carried my Macbook, Mbox and AudioTechnica 3035 with my carryon. Recording in a different country was going to provide emcee Lost Thought with a new found energy, at least I was hoping for it, these L.A Times provide an interesting landscape.
Taking off from L.A.X is where it began and Taipei is where it continued. The long Layover in Taipei provided me some time to sit against a wall in the terminal area and write about what is going on. I recorded half of the album in India and wanted to add the other half in the Fried Roots Lab when I touched back down in Los Angeles.
Their is a different feel sprinkled through this album. “No Curse in The Verse” lets Lost Thought shine over drum breaks and soul riffs that leave the head nodding.
Extra Room in a Flat in India, provided by Savi and Spec Lounge, just became my future recording studio. Fried Roots Worldwide!
The mic stand was setup with make shift coat rack and the tracks were laid down. I began to drop tracks at will, enjoying the nites and mixing drinks with great conversation provided the fuel for my imagery.
Bangalore in the background was definitely picked up on the mic and for parts of our editing, there are random reminders in the background.Landing back in Los Angeles provided a new task at hand for Shifty J and Lost Thought. Taking these raw tracks and shining them up. Shifty J worked his magic with some mixdown and break ideas. The project evolved with the new tracks laid down in the following weeks after the trip. Different energies, new found mentality.
The stories captured on the album bounce from topics of questioning reasons for creating music to Calling Lost Angels and looking for guidance from our fallen but not forgotten emcees.
