This hip hop instrumental crept its way out of the archive, as a reminder of past collaborations. This beat was made by an old friend of mine called Eli, who is a talented graphic artist and producer. While he is wandering around somewhere on this globe, he left Fried Roots with this last instrumental years ago. It was a very important track for me personally as I got to see how music is more than chopped samples but arrangement and creativity. Eli took this old Issac Hayes track and flipped it with Reason, titled “Give Me Some”. I remember seeing beat making as more than just long loop cutting but seeing it as sound meshing, finding random harmony amongst this pool of samples.
I found more fun with drum breaks and new arrangements and now sampling has become more of a craft, taking individual hits and sounds I enjoy and being the musician and creator of musical madness. Fried Roots is always there to provide that feel good hip hop that can spark any emcee out of his/her writers block. If it ain’t Fried, it ain’t Fried Roots.
